Partnership Lake Houston (formerly Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce) has proven it never backs down from a challenge. When COVID did not allow for its annual fundraiser Party on the Green, it pivoted to Party on the Screen, a successful virtual event held on October 29th. Now, once again, it’s at the forefront of ingenuity as it reimagines the popular 10K 5K event to Walk Run Discover Lake Houston, a virtual run, walk, team event promoting health and well-being for people of all ages in the community.
The Lake Houston 10k 5k is an annual tradition which registers close to 1,000 runners from the greater Houston area. The core elements of the competitive virtual 10k 5k will be expanded upon to include families, corporations, and community group engagement. Walk Run Discover Lake Houston, presented by Tachus, kicks off March 1st and concludes March 31st. The event welcomes serious runners who can post their best 10k and 5k times throughout the month to a competitive leaderboard. Families, corporate employees, and community groups will be encouraged to participate in community and individual goals and competitions. The Kid’s 1-Mile Run for Fun allows kids to post their best times. The event also features contests and competitions to encourage kids and families to get outside and get active together. The goal is to get everyone out from behind their screens to discover beautiful greater Lake Houston!

Chelsie Baker, Marketing Manager at Tachus shared that “Tachus is very excited to be the presenting sponsor of Walk Run Discover Lake Houston and run alongside our customers in the Lake Houston area. One of Tachus’ core values is community, and we look forward to giving back and helping the community while we all run or walk together. Don’t worry, we promise our Internet service is much faster than our racers.”
Walk Run Discover virtual race swag? They’ve got you covered! Participants receive a race shirt, race bib, and participants medal included in registration fees. Sponsors and any registered participant who raises $50 (in addition to the registration fee) for one of our area partner charities will receive a neck gaiter as well.
“We are approaching 2021 with optimism and extending an invitation to our community to join us in getting outside to explore the natural beauty of our Lake Houston community. We will provide suggested 1 mile, 5K and 10K routes throughout the Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita and Summerwood areas encouraging exploration of new places and showcasing why the Lake Houston area is such a great place to live,” remarks Jenna Armstrong, CEO Partnership Lake Houston. Nonactive people can also form teams like the Couch Potatoes or NONE RUN to participate by paying not to run.
Corey Turner, Director of Sales and Marketing for McElvy Media Group serves as the Walk Run Discover Lake Houston event chair this year. “I’ve participated in the 10k 5k event for many years in a volunteer leadership role and as a competitor and I am genuinely excited about the new format. Running or walking together is a great way for families, companies and organizations to come together in a healthy way. This event promotes physical and mental health, while helping us discover our Lake Houston area. And we haven’t forgotten our serious runners. They can post their best times to our leaderboard and improve their time over the four weeks,” said Turner.
