Have you found yourself driving down Kingwood Drive and seen that building at the corner of the Chelsea Deli strip center with the big "School of Rock" sign and wondered to yourself, just what the heck is a school of rock? Wasnand#39;t that a Jack Black movie?

School of Rock Kingwood is a franchised music school, part of a national chain and one of nine Houston area locations, for all skill levels, ages, and musical aspirations. School of Rock was recently ranked among Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500, with the brand claiming the top ranking in the children’s enrichment music category. With students ranging from toddlers to adults, School of Rock is where music students grow into real musicians. At School of Rock the students learn by playing, rather than by first learning to read music. They take specific songs, break them down to their elements and, as a group and individually, learn to reproduce those elements into cohesive songs on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals. School of Rock is Music School reimagined. The patented School of Rock Method uses programs that are designed to encourage learning in a supportive environment where students of all skill levels are comfortable and engaged. We take the music school concept to the next level for kids, teens, and adults.

School of Rock teaches their students seasonally, much like regular schools divide their curriculum into semesters, and at the end of each season, once the students have developed their skills, they are given the opportunity to show off their prowess as musicians at a large number of local live music venues including places as small as the Concert Pub on FM 1960 and places as large as the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land. Bands formed at School of Rock Kingwood have also appeared at a large number of festivals and events in Kingwood Town Center including the now defunct This Is Kingwood Festival as well as Kingwood Spring Fest, Kingwood Fall Festival and Kingwood Kids Fest between 2015 and 2018.

Much like learning to ride a bike, learning to play music is largely based on muscle memory. Of course itand#39;s important to learn notes, scales, rhythm and the ability to "hear" harmonies and melodies in your head, but just as important is learning the ability to turn that knowledge into a cohesive composition and to do so with the help of others. Simply put, music is social and the School of Rock method recognizes that, and places the social element of music creation at the forefront of its curriculum. Their School of Rock Method has even earned them a U.S. Patent.

The students at School of Rock learn by playing songs they know and love from classics like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin to the hair band songs of the 80s including classics from Aerosmith, Guns N Roses and Motley Crue to some of the new modern rock hits. The repertoire isnand#39;t just limited to rock though. The students get a diverse education in genres like jazz, blues, punk, metal, country, 80s new wave, pop, indie music and more.

While some of the students may be a little timid when they reach the stage, many of them have spent enough time honing their skills and developing a comfort level with performing that they are able to practically "own the stage" like the true rockstars they aspire to be. It helps that when they perform the first few times, the crowd consists of a lot of very proud and supportive parents and friends, there to cheer them on and encourage them in what can be a daunting experience. It normally only takes just a few songs for the students to find their comfort zone and when they do, the confidence level kicks in and they put on a heck of a show.

Even with the Covid-19 pandemic in full effect, School of Rock Kingwood kept the music going in 2020, fostering connection and community in the Kingwood area. The music school adapted its business model to offer virtual one-on-one music lessons and delivered exclusive access to some of the worldand#39;s most famous musicians, new curriculum updates, virtual concerts and more. At School of Rock Kingwood, students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. They call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by their expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.

"School of Rock defied the constraints of the pandemic to unlock breakthroughs that have strengthened our concept, competitive advantage, and our culture," said Rob Price, CEO of School of Rock. "I am inspired by the creativity of our franchisees and school teams in the face of unprecedented challenges. Our community has sustained momentum through innovation and an unyielding commitment to enriching lives."

School of Rock Kingwood is currently open to students ages 3 and up and Covid safety protocols are in effect including masks and temperature checks.
