As a community that really revolves around families and their beloved pets, Kingwood has a large number of furry friends, and more often than not, they tend to get out, run around, especially on our golf courses and in our parks, and sometimes they don't find their way back. If we don't have them chipped or have proper identification collars on them, there is only so much many of us can do to find them, and all too often we abandon the search. It's not the way we want it, but it can happen.
Then there are others in our community who purposefully abandon, neglect and abuse animals out of some twisted need to feel bigger and better than. It's sick, and it's criminal. It is for this very reason that we need organzations like VAP in our community.
Kingwoods's Volunteers For Animal Protection, Inc. or VAP, is a very important non-profit, no-kill animal welfare organization that rescues and places abandoned, abused, and neglected cats and dogs into permanent, loving homes and has been doing so in Kingwood for over 30 years. They have a shelter facility that they use to evaluate and care for animals before they move to a foster or adoptive home. Most of their animals live at the shelter and they are currently in desperate need of loving foster homes and families willing to provide food, water, and love to the animals until they are adopted. VAP spay/neuters all of their animals before they are adopted to families. They are a volunteer-based 501 (c)3 organization.
Kingwood's VAP rehabilitate these animals by getting them the medical attention they need and provide them with food, shelter and lots of love and attention until they are ready to move to a foster or adoptive home. They also aid in the prevention of cruelty to animals and the relief of suffering among animals, through the extension of humane education to the public.
Kingwood's VAP is hosting a volunteer drive + meet and greet + adoption event on Saturday, February 27th from 11am-2pm at Pet Ranch in Kingwood. If you aren't familiar with Pet Ranch, they are located in the former HEB shopping center, across from the current HEB shopping center at the corner of West Lake Houston Parkway and Kingwood Drive. Pet Ranch has been a staple of the Kingwood Community for 42 years and survived extreme hardship in 2017 when they took on almost four feet of water during Hurricane Harvey, causing them to wonder if they would ever reopen. They did reopen and thankfully are here for all of us to enjoy at events like this.
In addition to an introduction to what could possibly become your newest family member, Kingwood's Volunteers for Animal Protection will have volunteers on hand to answer questions, free refreshments and information on how you can become a part of this incredible organization.
